I was born in Canton, Ohio and throughout my childhood I moved around the state of Ohio.  I grew up in 3 places.  My early elementary years up through 3rd grade were spent in small town Ohio in Zanesville.  From there my family moved to rural Ohio when my father became a pastor and we lived in the Mansfield Ohio area.  When I entered 10th grade my family then moved to inner city Cleveland as my parents became church planters.  Throughout my adolescence I had many cross cultural trips: Mexico, Haiti, and Cote d’Ivoire.  In those trips I discovered a love for other cultures as well as a connection with Third Culture Kids because of my own background in having transitions growing up.  After high school, I attended Mount Vernon Nazarene University in Mount Vernon, Ohio studying Mathematics Education.  After hearing Cindy Fox speak about International Schools of China my sophomore year, I decided that was where I wanted to teach.  I transferred to Indiana Wesleyan University, still studying Mathematics Education.  I was able to do my student teaching at Shenyang International School in 2007.  Upon graduation, I was hired to be the first full time math teacher at Wuhan Yangtze International School.  In my 9 years working for WYIS, I not only worked to develop a strong math program but also served as the Student Life Coordinator.  This role included planning assemblies, Fall Camp, and advisory times.  Along with that, I taught Service Learning and led WYIS joining SYIS in a service trip each year to the Philippines.  In 2016, I took on the role of Director of Odyssey.

Education: BS in Mathematics Education – Indiana Wesleyan University, MEd Curriculum and Instruction – Indiana Wesleyan University

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR

Growing up in the northwoods of Minnesota, I learned to love the outdoors and value time with people. After going to college in Minneapolis, I moved to Nigeria to teach elementary. Two years later I found myself in Qingdao, China working with ISC, and I have been here since. I have a lot of varied interests including the “normal” ones like photography, games, singing, and travel, but I also really enjoy Marvel comics, creating unusual flavor combinations, kayaking, and being in the cold. I’m still discovering new things about myself and about those around me, and that is exciting to me. The biggest lesson I’ve learned in life is that my actions do not decide the Father’s love for me.

Education: BA in Elementary Education Minor in Middle School Math – University of Northwestern St. Paul, MEd in Educational Leadership – Indiana Wesleyan University
